W4K Reaches GuideStar Platinum

For Immediate Release
Warriors 4 Kids Inc. Reaches GuideStar Platinum
Allows Donors to Focus on Progress and Results
Melbourne Beach, Florida – Warriors 4 Kids Inc. today earned the Platinum GuideStar Nonprofit
Profile Seal of Transparency, the highest level of recognition offered by GuideStar, the world’s largest source of nonprofit information. By sharing metrics that highlight progress Warriors 4 Kids is making toward its mission, the organization is helping donors move beyond simplistic ways of nonprofit evaluation such as overhead ratios.

“In accordance with our long-held belief in being transparent about our work,” said
Kellie Bowling, “we are excited to convey our organization’s results in a user-friendly and highly visual manner. By updating our GuideStar Nonprofit Profile to the Platinum level, we can now easily share a wealth of up-to-date organizational metrics with our supporters as well as GuideStar’s immense online audience, which includes donors, grantmakers, our peers, and the media.”

To reach the Platinum level, Warriors 4 Kids Inc. added extensive information to its Nonprofit
Profile on GuideStar: basic contact and organizational information; in-depth financial information; qualitative information about goals, strategies, and capabilities; and quantitative information about results and progress toward its mission. By taking the time to provide this information, Warriors 4 Kids has demonstrated its commitment to transparency and to giving donors and funders meaningful data to evaluate Warriors 4 Kids.

Sharing metrics with the public and our potential donors is important to us. We want our donors to know that their contributions are going to those truly in need, rather than into the pockets of management. We are fully volunteer run, and have no plans to change that.

“I encourage you to visit our profile on GuideStar to see what we’re all about,”
added Kellie Bowling. “We’re thrilled that our GuideStar Platinum Nonprofit Profile and its
associated benefits help us better communicate our organization’s exciting initiatives at a global scale.”
About GuideStar Nonprofit Profiles
The GuideStar database contains a profile for every tax-exempt nonprofit registered with the IRS. GuideStar encourages every nonprofit to claim and update its profile at no cost to the organization. Updating allows nonprofits to share a wealth of up-to-date information with the more than 8 million people who visit GuideStar to learn more about nonprofit organizations each year. Updating also allows nonprofits to share information with the more than 200 philanthropic websites and applications that are powered by GuideStar data. To reach a given participation level, organizations need to complete all required fields for that participation level. The GuideStar participation levels, acknowledged as symbols of transparency in the nonprofit sector, are displayed on all updated participants’ profiles in the GuideStar database.

Warriors 4 Kids contributes to the BFP 2017 Holiday Toy Drive.

We are very excited to announce our first donation to Brevard Family Partnership to help with their Holiday Toy Drive! Thanks to your generous support, we were able to contribute $2,500 towards purchasing holiday gifts for foster children in Brevard County. Kellie Bowling & Keenun Barley presented a check to Brevard Family Partnership today so that children in the foster care program can receive holiday gifts like every other child.

Brevard Family Partnership

On Monday, July 10, 2017,we had the privilege to meet with some awe-inspiring members of our local community! We visited with Brevard Family Partnership‘s Sr. Executive of Programs, Director of Clinical Services, and the Public Relations Manager, and we had the opportunity to meet some women who are foster parents, along with two young adults who have been a part of the foster care system here in Brevard County. We are very excited to be raising funds during our Ultraman Florida campaign that will be donated to Brevard Family Partnership so they can continue to implement programs that will benefit the children who need us the most – foster children.

We learned so much from our visit.  Here are some highlights:

  • Support is available for foster children beyond their 18th birthday through a couple of different programs.  Postsecondary Education Support & Services (PESS) is available to youth ages 18-23 who are attending school full time.  Alternatively, My Future, My Choice is available for youth ages 18-21 who are working and wish to remain in foster care.  Legislation to make this possible was enacted in January 2014, so it is still a relatively new program.
  • There is always a need for more foster parents.  You can be a grandma, already a parent, a single person, or married.  We were told that homes in Northern Brevard are needed, but in general, foster families are always needed.
  • The State of Florida provides foster parents with a monthly stipend that is dependent upon the age of the child.  The average is around $15/day per child.  Foster families provide any necessary support above and beyond what the state cannot provide.  This means the “extras” are just that – extra expenses for the families to incur.
  • A big need is jobs and internships for young adults transitioning out of foster care.  There is a lot of big business in Brevard County, so if your place of work has internships available, contact Brevard Family Partnership to find out how to place a transitioning foster youth in an internship position.
